Invasive Algae Species in Maine Rivers
AUGUSTA - The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection have partnered with Fly Fishing in Maine (FFIM), a group dedicated to protecting Maine's fisheries, to place three washing stations at popular Maine fisheries in an attempt to prevent the spreading of "didymo" -- an invasive species of algae -- to Maine's rivers.

Open Water Fishing Preview
Ice fishing season is winding down and it's time to plan for spring fishing trips. My prediction is for early ice-outs. Although there is still plenty of ice, the quality is poor. The cold weather in late December created a good layer of hard ice, but the heavy snowstorms of January and February added a relatively soft upper portion of white/slush ice. I expect this upper layer to go fast with the arrival of warm, sunny spring days.

Rangeley Snowmobile Trails Report 3/27/2008
